Joanna’s love of music goes back as far as she can remember. The seeds of which were planted at a young age singing at church and have continued to flourish to this day as an alto singer in Whatcom Chorale.
Joanna first joined ABC Dance as a dance mom in 2014 and started assisting with the pre-K and toddler classes in 2016. Now Joanna is excited to share her love of music by making it accessible for young children through a variety of fun songs and exploring the sounds that different instruments can make.
A passionate lifelong student of music, Joanna has also studied violin and piano and is currently studying the intricacies of voice.
Kat has been dancing since the age of 3, starting in ballet, tap, and jazz, and rounding out with Irish, African, and Broadway. She has been lucky to study with local dance companies, as well as dancing with the Eugene Ballet and studying with the Dance Theater of Harlem.
Kat has most recently been focusing on choreographing local musical theater, such as Spamalot! and Anything Goes at the Bellingham Theater Guild, winning her the Bentley award for Best Choreographer in 2016. She joined ABCDance in 2015 and has helped to assist with several adult and children classes. Kat loves to choreograph mainly rhythm and Broadway tap, while throwing in some newfangled rock and roll, with a little bit of hip hop to keep it interesting!
Guest Hip Hop Instructor
Movement has been a part of Tatyana’s life since the day she was born. Tatyana is a graduate of WWU with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, with a focus in Health and Fitness Specialization. Currently, Tatyana is an adjunct faculty for Western teaching both Pilates and Mod-Hop, as well as staff for the Faculty & Staff Wellness Program. As an instructor, Tatyana enjoys teaching multiple disciplines of movement to a wide range of students. Tatyana is also a Pilates instructor at Core Kinetics, where she can focus on individuals needs. As a member of Bellingham Repertory Dance, Tatyana has appreciated working with amazing choreographers, and dancing alongside many talented women. The opportunities to grow as a mover, artist, and community member through her work in BRD has been very fulfilling over the past few years. Tatyana has found hip hop to be a great way to incorporate movement from many styles of dance. While in college, she was a member of the WWU Hip Hop Dance Team, and was a highlight of her collegiate dance experience. For Tatyana, hip hop provides a space to express your personal movement style in a high-energy, dynamic, and fun way.
Born and raised in Denver Colorado, Erica moved out to Bellingham in 2014. She has been tap dancing since she was a little kid and absolutely loves it. Erica co-founded to Tap Dancing Club at Western Washington University and has been teaching and coordinating events with the club for the past three years. She joined ABCDance as a student over a year ago and began assistant teaching in 2017. Her style is primarily rhythm tap, and I like to choreograph to jazz, blues, and some modern music.
Alissa and Kevin Stock
Swing Dance Instructors
Alissa discovered Swing Dancing in February 2002 and has been hooked ever since! After taking lessons at the WWU Swing Kids student club she began teaching East Coast Swing, Charleston, and Lindy Hop in September 2003. Kevin started attending Swing Kids September 2004 and his love of Swing Dancing has grown steadily ever since!
When Alissa's previous teaching partner moved to Seattle in 2006, she convinced Kevin to teach with her. Over the next decade, they continued learning from internationally recognized Lindy Hop instructors at Camp Jitterbug and Jitterbug weekend in Seattle as well as staying involved with the dwindling Lindy Hop community here in Bellingham.
After two years away from teaching to focus on their young children, they are ready and excited to share their love of the music and dances of the Big Band Jazz era with you! Their teaching style focuses on using momentum and whole-body movement to dance with your partner and with the music.
"I am so excited to bring ABCDance to life! it has been my dream to create a program that can bring together both the fun and sheer joy that dance fills me with and the technique and discipline that is required to become a true performer. Teaching dance is my life's passion and my promise to the Bellingham community and dance community as a whole is to never stop growing as an educator for the arts"- Tabetha Clark
